Beyond Resolution 275: Towards a General Comment on the protectionof sexual and gender minorities in Africa
Event description.
The event seeks to build consensus on the adoption of a General Comment towards the protection of sexual and gender minorities in Africa. The need for a General Comment comes with the recognition that since the adoption of Resolution 275, sexual and gender minorities still face serious violence and other human rights violations. Part of the reason is the lack of elaborate normative standards on their obligations under the Charter to ensure the protection of the rights of sexual and gender minorities. A General Comment will set out the minimal core obligations of states and the normative standards for the protection of sexual and gender minorities.
